Healthcare Post Passage, Part I

So as you probably know, the US House of Non-Representatives voted by a margin of 219-212 in favor of taking over the healthcare of this country. I am perhaps most disappointed in the fact that by doing so they blatantly ignored what I and a vast majority of Americans wanted.

I want, then, to take a look at insurance. After all, this is the main reason the bill was passed- MILLIONS of Americans cannot get coverage. If you followed the debate from last year the number of uninsured dropped from 47 million to 32 million. How did that happen?

Did we change something? Did our system magically cover 15 million previously uninsured? I doubt it. More likely the reason is because the President knows the number is bogus all around. It has already been shown where the numbers come from and the real number is around 10-12 million.

Still, that is a lot of folks. An entire 4% of our population. It stands to reason why we should uproot our entire system. 96% of America is living large while these poor Four-Percenters are getting the shaft. Much better to be BROAD AND SWEEPING than FOCUSED AND TARGETED.

But I digress.

I want to discuss insurance as it has been displayed. First, the claim that the insurance companies are evil and greedy. They are out there raising rates at 40% just because they can; and at a time when America is really hurting.

Ok, so WHY did Anthem Blue Cross of California do that? Note that this was only for PRIVATE policies. No one under group (i.e. employer) plans was affected. President Obama even said it was unconscionable and chastised them for doing so. Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius berate them because they raised rates after a whopping 2 BILLION dollar profit in 2009.

Wow. A profit of 2 BILLION! What was this company thinking? Taking a massive 2.2% profit while poor Americans are suffering. They are not like those wonderful guys over at McDonalds, who’s 10% profit margin is TOTALLY different. I would like to note that in the Balance Sheet of Anthem (their annual financial report) they sold a property for around 3 billion dollars. So that means (to the mathematically challenged) that Anthem actually LOST money.

Fire people or raise rates? As a business person, you have to do what is best for your business. I don’t claim to say that Anthem was right in the size of their rate increase. I am not privileged to their insider projections. But for once, just ONCE, can we quit demonizing everyone we disagree with and have a normal debate?

Gaffetastic VP Involved With Bad Goings On?

Last year our illustrious VP (Joe Biden for those who forgot we still HAVE a VP) made some comments to UAW workers in his home state of Delaware. Now there is nothing wrong with giving a good, Rah Rah fist-pumping speech to those who have lost their jobs to GM closing a plant. What is NOT cool is the fact that the speech given by the VP indicated he had inside knowledge to the detailed plans of a company who bought the plant, leading to questions regarding the $500 million loan (at taxpayer expense) given to the company and how Mr. Biden was involved.

Judicial Watch is investigating and has filed suit. Looks to be interesting times as one by one the corruption pillars get yanked away from the criminals in congress. I hope that ALL of them (L to R) get pounced and trounced.

Massachusetts Election Results

Today is the day. Scott Brown is going up against the Kennedy machine and their token candidate Martha Coakley. I shall try my best to keep the numbers updated as the day goes on. The polls open at 7:00AM and close at 8:00PM EST. Return often for updates.

UPDATE 12:20 – Seems that there are no exit polls, so no early return data is available. However, the Democrats are already pointing fingers. For the rest of us, keep them crossed that there is not rampant fraud.

UPDATE 12:30 – The folks at Keyboard Militia have noted that Martha Coakley’s campaign is breaking Massachusetts law regarding Electioneering at voting locations. Imagine that. “I would cheat to win.” comes to mind.

UPDATE 13:30 – There are no exit polls, yet Boston.com has an early set of results, showing Martha Coakley in the lead 50-49-1. Interesting, yes? In particular that their total percentage exceeds 100%. Just sayin’.

UPDATE 13:50 – John Stewart analyzes the senate race. His best line? “See, it’s not that the Democrats are playing checkers and the Republicans are playing chess. It’s that the Republicans are playing chess and the Democrats are in the nurses office because, once again, they’ve glued their balls to their thighs.” Classic!.

UPDATE 14:50 – Let the flailing continue. The Democrats are all atwitter. 🙂 God I love America. We suffered through it from 2006-2009. Their turn.

UPDATE 15:00 – If you missed it from earlier. The Boston globe posted election results a full 8 hours before the polls closed. They had everything, including an interactive map with mouse-over effects showing a result town-by-town. Now, of course, being a web developer, I understand all about testing your system. But as a GOOD developer, I don’t recall ever putting my code live to test. We have a sand box we test in and then push it live when it is actually supposed to go live. Attempt to influence the results? Or fraud? We shall see.

UPDATE 17:00 – If the Health Industry is so heavily behind the Health Care fiasco pushing its way through congress, why are their stocks soaring at the possibility of a Brown victory in Massachusetts? Just askin’.

UPDATE 17:40 – Liberals across the board are already talking about what they can do to pass health care regardless of what happens in Massachusetts. Fine by me. More ammunition to eradicate them all. See you after the polls close! Until then, real life calls.

War And Peace, The Sequel

The House put out their health care proposal today. 1,990 pages of regulation, taxes, waste, fraud and abuse. Did they not listen to us back in August? Do the Democrats really think that in passing this thing the people will finally shut up and take their medicine?

Melt the phones. Don’t be shy about calling and emailing. Do it every day. Make sure that you wind up on the administration’s watch list. It is the least we can do for our children.

Anyone have any Tylenol? (Crap. Is that even covered now? Have you seen the PRICES for a bottle of aspirin??)

Nuttier Than A… Well… ACORN

UPDATE: Kansas Secretary of State candidate calls ACORN a criminal enterprise.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is a well-known and documented organization. They are at the center of numerous investigations into its illegal voter registration practices and at last count over 14 states have charges pending against the group. And this is not the first time. Employees of ACORN have been found guilty on numerous occasions.

Pennsylvania ACORN Workers Charged: Seven Pittsburgh area ACORN workers were charged with falsifying voter-registration forms, with six accused of doing so to meet the group’s alleged quota system before last year’s general election. District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. said he is hoping that the workers charged Thursday will help authorities determine whether Allegheny County ACORN officials will be charged with requiring the illegal quotas or otherwise directing that voter registrations be faked.

During this time, congress held hearings into some of these allegations. Rep. John Conyers (D-Michigan) claimed that what he had heard was serious enough to warrant a full investigation. Some in the House have introduced legislation to ban ANY group under investigation from receiving federal money. It seemed as though this bipartisan effort to root out the issues was going to hit ACORN hard and thus be a great day for the American Justice system.

Like all good combat, though, the struggle moved back and forth, each side sparring and parrying the blows from its opponent. At the last second, defeat is yanked from the jaws of victory and we find ourselves having to regroup and determine what the next course of action. Such was the case recently when said Rep. decided that pursuing ACORN’s corruption was not the thing to do.

Say again? Since when is corruption not an issue to be investigated?

Oh. Wait. Most ethical and transparent congress ever. Right. I had forgotten.

Seeing Red On Green

In what I think is a GREAT move, many Democrats are balking at the idea of a national energy tax to support Cap n Trade. Regardless of how it is spun, a MASSIVE tax is exactly what it is going to be. And if you tax the industry, the consumer will get the shaft in paying for it.

Of course, the government, in this legislation can tell the industry that they are not allowed to raise rates. That would allow the industry to go broke and bankrupt so that Glorious Leader and his Crony Crowd could swoop in like Flying Monkeys led by the Wicked Witch of the West to bail them out and nationalize them.

With finance and energy in the bag, the march to statism will have taken a giant leap. Gird your loins, patriots. It is going to be a long, cold winter.

I am not even going to comment (much) on this.

Global warming is such a farce that now the eco-freaks have to change the terminology to get people to see their side. Science is proving that it is the SUN that causes warming and that CO2 emissions have nothing to do with it.

And yet, the IDIOTS in the House are BYPASSING NORMAL PROCEDURE (read: bypassing dissenting voices on the subcommittee) in order to pass the massive Cap and Trade legislation that is no longer allowed to be debated.

Arlen, my friend. I guess it is a good thing that you jumped the gravy train that has provided your livelihood for the past 30 years. After all, a man of such conviction should go where his heart, beliefs and wallet lead him.

First you say we have gotten too right for you (not true, Republicans are decidedly more liberal). Then you say it is our fault that Jack Kemp died. (Not true. Republicans have increased research spending on numerous forms of diseases). Now, you create a website that is implies you are collecting donations for cancer research, when in fact it is just a front to get money into your re-election campaign.

I find it hard to believe that the people of Pennsylvania are as stupid as you think they are. I predict you will not make it through th 2010 election. No matter how corrupt you are.

1 Little 2 Little 3 Little Scandals

How many scandals can an administration have within the first hundred days of office? The numerous tax-evasion questions of Glorious Leader’s various nominees are well documented, as are the issues with pay-to-play surrounding former-governor Bill Richardson the the senate appointee Roland Burris, which was made by impeached Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, the bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia and the continued tour of apologies to Europe and Latin America.

Now comes the report that the NSA has a Democrat Representative, Jane Harman of California, involved in a plan to lobby on behalf of Israel in return for their help in lobbying for her to get a Chairman position.

In exchange for Harman’s help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.

Glorious Leader was not involved in this. But the corruption being heaped on the Democrats so quickly this year is surely going to make the 2010 elections VERY interesting. Hold on to your hats, folks. I think the ride is going to get pretty bumpy up until then.

Reading Is No Longer Fundamental

Not only do our congressional leaders NOT read the legislation put to them for a vote, now our political party of choice is hiring people to attack our thoughts and ideas…

…without ever having read the documents they were hired to debunk.

What am I talking about, you ask? It seems that some state Democrats in- yes, once again the great Northwest- Oregon hired an economist to slam and debunk the Republican alternative to the state budget. The problem is, this guy went on the stand and TESTIFIED against it without ever having read the plan.

You have to love it. If that is how things are supposed to work, I could spend hours a day arguing against pretty much everything I disagreed with. Who needs facts, when opinions and speculations are SO much better at proving I am right?

IDIOTS.
