The Other Unsecured Border

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin piggybacks on my post 🙂

Mexican President Felipe Calderon said that the law passed in Arizona this past week was a violation of human rights.

Whose rights, exactly, are being violated? Not mine. Not yours. Not the guy down the street. Maybe he meant one of the thousands of illegal immigrants who cross our border every year? In that case, too bad. They have no rights here, other than the right to life. If they want the rest, they need to get into line.

Back in 2006, Calderon said

he planned to strengthen security at his country’s southern border with Guatemala, which is used by thousands of immigrants seeking to reach the United States each year. Calderon said he planned to increase the police presence at the border with the hope that it could become the ‘door to development rather than the door to crime,’ in a speech at the border town of Tuxta Chico.

He said

the new force would include federal and state police as well as immigration agents, who would also combat corrupt border officials that were allowing undocumented immigrants across the border.

Perhaps El Presidente is worried that all of those Guatemalan immigrants would displace the hard-working Mexicans crossing over to the US? Explain to me, again, how it is alright for Mexico to clamp down on their border with police and troops, but we cannot enact laws to protect our people and land? In fact, we ENCOURAGE Mexico to block their border. We help FOOT THE BILL to deport people, because it costs a measly $22 dollars to send them home from Mexico, but around $1700 from the States.

Come on libs, tell me how I and my Arizona comrades have it wrong?

Healthcare Post Passage, Part I

So as you probably know, the US House of Non-Representatives voted by a margin of 219-212 in favor of taking over the healthcare of this country. I am perhaps most disappointed in the fact that by doing so they blatantly ignored what I and a vast majority of Americans wanted.

I want, then, to take a look at insurance. After all, this is the main reason the bill was passed- MILLIONS of Americans cannot get coverage. If you followed the debate from last year the number of uninsured dropped from 47 million to 32 million. How did that happen?

Did we change something? Did our system magically cover 15 million previously uninsured? I doubt it. More likely the reason is because the President knows the number is bogus all around. It has already been shown where the numbers come from and the real number is around 10-12 million.

Still, that is a lot of folks. An entire 4% of our population. It stands to reason why we should uproot our entire system. 96% of America is living large while these poor Four-Percenters are getting the shaft. Much better to be BROAD AND SWEEPING than FOCUSED AND TARGETED.

But I digress.

I want to discuss insurance as it has been displayed. First, the claim that the insurance companies are evil and greedy. They are out there raising rates at 40% just because they can; and at a time when America is really hurting.

Ok, so WHY did Anthem Blue Cross of California do that? Note that this was only for PRIVATE policies. No one under group (i.e. employer) plans was affected. President Obama even said it was unconscionable and chastised them for doing so. Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius berate them because they raised rates after a whopping 2 BILLION dollar profit in 2009.

Wow. A profit of 2 BILLION! What was this company thinking? Taking a massive 2.2% profit while poor Americans are suffering. They are not like those wonderful guys over at McDonalds, who’s 10% profit margin is TOTALLY different. I would like to note that in the Balance Sheet of Anthem (their annual financial report) they sold a property for around 3 billion dollars. So that means (to the mathematically challenged) that Anthem actually LOST money.

Fire people or raise rates? As a business person, you have to do what is best for your business. I don’t claim to say that Anthem was right in the size of their rate increase. I am not privileged to their insider projections. But for once, just ONCE, can we quit demonizing everyone we disagree with and have a normal debate?

More tomorrow as we look at the Left comparing Healthcare mandates to driving insurance mandates.

Gaffetastic VP Involved With Bad Goings On?

Last year our illustrious VP (Joe Biden for those who forgot we still HAVE a VP) made some comments to UAW workers in his home state of Delaware. Now there is nothing wrong with giving a good, Rah Rah fist-pumping speech to those who have lost their jobs to GM closing a plant. What is NOT cool is the fact that the speech given by the VP indicated he had inside knowledge to the detailed plans of a company who bought the plant, leading to questions regarding the $500 million loan (at taxpayer expense) given to the company and how Mr. Biden was involved.

Judicial Watch is investigating and has filed suit. Looks to be interesting times as one by one the corruption pillars get yanked away from the criminals in congress. I hope that ALL of them (L to R) get pounced and trounced.

Massachusetts Election Results

Today is the day. Scott Brown is going up against the Kennedy machine and their token candidate Martha Coakley. I shall try my best to keep the numbers updated as the day goes on. The polls open at 7:00AM and close at 8:00PM EST. Return often for updates.

UPDATE 12:20 – Seems that there are no exit polls, so no early return data is available. However, the Democrats are already pointing fingers. For the rest of us, keep them crossed that there is not rampant fraud.

UPDATE 12:30 – The folks at Keyboard Militia have noted that Martha Coakley’s campaign is breaking Massachusetts law regarding Electioneering at voting locations. Imagine that. “I would cheat to win.” comes to mind.

UPDATE 13:30 – There are no exit polls, yet Boston.com has an early set of results, showing Martha Coakley in the lead 50-49-1. Interesting, yes? In particular that their total percentage exceeds 100%. Just sayin’.

UPDATE 13:50John Stewart analyzes the senate race. His best line? “See, it’s not that the Democrats are playing checkers and the Republicans are playing chess. It’s that the Republicans are playing chess and the Democrats are in the nurses office because, once again, they’ve glued their balls to their thighs.” Classic!.

UPDATE 14:50Let the flailing continue. The Democrats are all atwitter. 🙂 God I love America. We suffered through it from 2006-2009. Their turn.

UPDATE 15:00 – If you missed it from earlier. The Boston globe posted election results a full 8 hours before the polls closed. They had everything, including an interactive map with mouse-over effects showing a result town-by-town. Now, of course, being a web developer, I understand all about testing your system. But as a GOOD developer, I don’t recall ever putting my code live to test. We have a sand box we test in and then push it live when it is actually supposed to go live. Attempt to influence the results? Or fraud? We shall see.

UPDATE 17:00 – If the Health Industry is so heavily behind the Health Care fiasco pushing its way through congress, why are their stocks soaring at the possibility of a Brown victory in Massachusetts? Just askin’.

UPDATE 17:40 – Liberals across the board are already talking about what they can do to pass health care regardless of what happens in Massachusetts. Fine by me. More ammunition to eradicate them all. See you after the polls close! Until then, real life calls.

UPDATE 23:30BROWN WINS, COAKLEY CONCEDES Final talley!!:
Scott Brown (R): 1,161,586 – 53%
Martha Coakley (D): 1,055,409 – 47%
Joe Kennedy (I): 22165 – 1%
John Howard (Write-In): 0

UPDATE 22:30Roger Ebert? Geez. I sorta like him when he was with the late Gene Siskel!! I guess even the softest of liberals are quaking in their boots at the rapid rise of conservatism.

Your Daily ClimateGate Briefing

Michael Mann, he of the Penn State Office of Climate Extremism, is “under investigation” by the university to see if his involvement in ClimateGate warrants any action (duh! Of course is does).

My personal opinion of this is that he should be fired, regardless of his status or tenure. Mann conspired with the East Anglia University climate goons to find ways to stifle dissent by changing the rules for peer review. He actively conspired to hide information by deleting pertinent emails that were being requested by a Freedom of Information Act. That alone should land him in jail. However, as much grant money (TAX DOLLARS) he brings in for his religious research (which is obscene) this will be swept under the rug by those UNIVERSITY MEMBERS who are investigating.

Unions Poised To Bilk Billions From Non-Unions

Big Labor got a sweet deal from the administration. At first, Glorious Leader said that he wanted a tax on all of those high-priced insurance plans. Before I go on, though, I have a question about that. Why? Why would you want to make UN-affordable, what some families find affordable? Why are you wanting those folks to drop their high priced insurance? Is this your way of punishing people who are successful?

So now the unions, with their millions in campaign contributions hard at work, have struck a deal. If a union member has a ‘Cadillac’ plan they are exempt from the proposed tax. The result? We The People will just have to pay more, I guess. Also, the business part of the bill that mandates all business provide healthcare for all employees, or pay a fine (tax). There was an exemption for small business with under 50 employees. Because of our labor union thugs, that exemption has since been removed.

The union goons even said that they intended this in order to get an advantage over non-union businesses. Maybe instead of trying to cheat your way, arm-twist your way and go about your normal business of corruption, you should see WHY non-union businesses are doing better than you…. like.. dissolve your union.

My Favorite Topic

Just when I think I cannot get any more good information about the scam known as Global Warming Climate Change, I come across an article that really gives me hope.

Firstly, while I am ecstatic about the revelation of scientific buffoonery, I want to go on record as believing that the culprits who stole the data need to be arrested and prosecuted. (Ok, I am rooting that they don’t get caught. After all, sometimes you have to have a recon group go deep into enemy territory to find what you need. But they DID break the law, so I will not feel sorry if they get arrested.)

For those who don’t know what I am talking about, it seems that hackers broke into a prominent CLIMATE CHANGE group’s email system. In there were damning messages and documents that showed how those inside tried to manipulate the data and outright lie in order to promote AGW and to squeeze out dissenters.

Good. Let the battle rage on. I have no doubt that the authors of those letters will cry foul and say the messages were falsified.

Inflate, Lie, Mislead, Repeat

The new stimulus-related jobs report is coming out. In it, Glorious Leader claims that the $787 Billion Porkulus Package “saved or created” some 600,000 jobs. His economic guru says it is more like 1.5 million.

How can you say jobs are saved or created when we have lost millions more than we created? I am talking NET results. I freely admit that if you spend billions of dollars there will be some jobs saved. You might even manufacture a few new positions. But this crap about saved or created has got to go. Our unemployment rate is pushing ten percent overall (40% in parts of California!). The president’s own expert said that all of the simulation we are going to get has already occurred. Excuse me?

My argument is, and always has been, what do we do when the money runs out? Cash for Clunkers gave a great boost to the auto industry. Now what? More programs? What about the electronics folks? Why did we not save Circuit City? Do we not want Best Buy to have competition? The housing industry got a great boost from the $8,000 tax credit for new home buyers. Now they want to extend it until April, and some want to expand it so every home buyer will be eligible.

When will we stop? If I bribe my kids enough they will mow my lawn and do the dishes. What happens when I stop paying? So will the chores. It is the exact same with American citizens. If you agree to pay them enough they will blindly do what you want. But, like every government idea, we- the tax payer- will then have to permanently foot the bill. Otherwise we are right back where we were but with a huge bill to pay.

I think we need more economists and CPA’s in congress and many less lawyers.

Corruption Alive And Well In DC

Wow.

I. Am. So. So. Shocked.

Actually, I don’t think anyone should be surprised by anything the Washington insides do. All Congress is about is power. How much power can they grab and how much control can they exert over the people they supposedly represent. It really doesn’t matter who is in charge, they are all the same. Why, then, are people shocked at the fact that Glorious Leader is peddling favors and positions to those who raised the the most capital for his campaign?

Anyone have $300K I can borrow? It would be so cool to bowl in the White House.

War And Peace, The Sequel

The House put out their health care proposal today. 1,990 pages of regulation, taxes, waste, fraud and abuse. Did they not listen to us back in August? Do the Democrats really think that in passing this thing the people will finally shut up and take their medicine?

Melt the phones. Don’t be shy about calling and emailing. Do it every day. Make sure that you wind up on the administration’s watch list. It is the least we can do for our children.

Anyone have any Tylenol? (Crap. Is that even covered now? Have you seen the PRICES for a bottle of aspirin??)

You can get the bill here. Get reading kids!
